iSR is a voluntary non-profit European membership organisation for SMEs within the domain of ICT research. SMEs who will innovate and grow and have both the need and a passion for research. Its vision is to foster European SME innovation and to increase the impact and influence of European SMEs. In order to achieve these goals, iSR provides an open platform for these research oriented SMEs in the ICT field allowing them to network their vision, knowledge and experience. iSR provides its members a light and efficient mechanism for their innovation insights to take European research forward by having the impact and influence to make a difference and drive a way forward. iSR ambition is be a key pillar of innovative European SMEs and so act as a central voice for European SMEs in the ICT research domain.

iSR Membership is fully open with a graded scale of involvement and thus responsibility and rewards. There is a membership fee payable primarily since ‘free’ membership organisations inevitably results in a lack or real commitment with everyone signing up and relying on others to do the work. iSR works on the basis of “Give More – Get More” basis with a membership focus on:

  • ICT focus: Software centric; Focus on open standards and specifications
  • SME focus: SME as per EU definition of SME, Members are direct SMEs only, no consultants, no individuals, no associations
  • Research focus: Committed to research, to be involved in research. Research for their own and the common good
  • Europe focus: Must be based in existing European member state and a mix of attributes which show they have European presence and activity

  • iSR is comprised of a board of executive level SME managers. Although open, the intent is not to have ‘anyone’ and everyone which just dilutes the intent. So the key to iSR is the focus mentioned above with 20 strategic partners including ICE, Abelssoft, Limelight Development.

Within research activities, such as RDI projects, iSR acts as a broker that allows you to engage with other partners from membership base so that selected members with core competences can add value to a project in an open way.
